Secondary Weapons and Devices have passive progression and MP is earned for time spent alive, even if they were never selected in battle. If the item is a primary weapon, any kills performed will not affect the MP received at the end of the match. For example, if the player had the item selected for 40% of the match's duration, then that item will receive 40% of the Map's Mastery Points. Mastery Points (or Experience) are earned at the end of each match for the time spent alive with the item selected.
It is possible to increase the level of an item by playing with it. Only permanent items can be modified, although it is still possible to earn EXP with a temporary item. Items that accept mods will have the option available in the Inventory. These can be obtained by increasing the item level or by completing some contracts. Unless you're willing to live dangerously, that is.Mods can be added to items by using Parts. A full, unrecoverable brick is always a possibility, so be very careful for the time being, and only run scripts/apps that have been confirmed safe.
